Simulated Based Training Vs the Classroom

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Simulated-based learning is based on the principles which argues that learning best takes place in the context in which it is going to be used and takes after the idea that knowledge is best understood and remembered when based in a real life scenario says Professor Terry Stewart of Massey University New Zealand.

The constantly changing nature of today’s workplaces makes simulated or scenario based training an attractive option for any organisation wishing to improve employee productivity and retention of training knowledge.

Participants are able to actively engage and immerse themselves in real world practices that provide the individuals the opportunity to experience a particular contextual experience in a relaxed and controlled environment. This in hand effectively makes an individual or group to critically reflect, think and learn from the experience without fear of the consequences of a negative outcome.

But what’s wrong with the normal traditional classroom learning?

There is certainly nothing wrong with traditional based learning but as far as informational sources go these days, information is very cheap, accessible and just a click away, so in today’s fast paced working environment it is important to understand that sometimes the passive and content heavy way of traditional learning is sometimes not enough when it comes to safety.

What benefits will come with simulated training?

Participants are able to take these lessons and experiences into the workplace with a much more concise understanding of particular workplace scenarios and therefore can use their new learned skills to appropriately analyse, solve and reflect on complex situations through decision making.

This is important because the costs in running simulated or scenario based training are far outweighed by the advantages it brings to the organisation in terms of saving money in the long term by avoiding crucially damaging mistakes in the workplace.

So how can you apply Scenario based learning to your business or organisation?

Safety Australia Group will be running private Mock Trials across the month of October in congruence with ‘National Safe Work Month’ for Workplace Health and Safety, Workplace Bullying, Food Safety and Environmental Compliance.

A mock trial is a simulated court case that facilitates interactive and high impact learning through the technique of scenario based learning. In the proceedings, each case will highlight typical practical and legal failings experienced by most organisations in real life but without the legal consequences.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Mock Trials for SAFE WORK MONTH” css_animation=”fadeInDown”]or more information about Mock Trials or to BOOK a private trial, go to our Mock Trial website for your opportunity to first hand experience what it’s like in a real life court system and gain the knowledge for a better and safer workplace.
