Work Safe QLD have developed a safety facilitation training film based on the true story of Jed Millen. Jed had been in the construction industry for close to 20 years when he fell five metres from a bridge that collapsed without warning.
An accumulation of avoidable mistakes resulted in a serious spinal injury and caused years of physical and emotional pain for him and his family and friends.
Building bridges – Jed’s story is a poignant reminder of the importance of communication, coordination and leadership when it comes to safety in the workplace.
This new film developed by Work Safe QLD, is seen through the eyes of an apprentice, and highlights the some of the factors that contributed to the incident in which Jed Millen was injured. This film uses Jed’s story to highlight the moments, conversations and decisions that could contributed to a different outcome.
The film is designed for groups to discuss how to better ask questions, stop, think and lead change that will ultimately create safer workplaces.
Jed can visit QLD workplaces to share his story. Visit the Work Safe QLD website for more information or to watch films ‘Building Bridges‘ or the new safety facilitation film based on Jed’s true story.
