NSW Budget: $2 Million Quad Bike Safety Package

images_quadbikeQuad bikes are currently a leading cause of death on Australian properties with 220 deaths in the past 16 years with thousands more people seriously injured. This has prompted SafeWork NSW to develop a Quad Bike Safety Improvement Program, due to commence in late July.

The program will include a $2 million dollar rebate package to encourage and support farmers to adopt a range of harm prevention strategies to protect their workers, family members and themselves and hopefully reduce quad bike tragedies and injuries on farms.  Continue reading

Dealing with Workplace Bullying

shutterstock_140979007When we think about bullying behaviour we often revert back to our childhood and think about those kids in the school yard that would taunt, steal lunch money or food, cause or threaten physical harm, verbally abuse and generally just make life miserable for the kids around them.

Unfortunately the reality is that some of those kids continue this bullying behaviour into their adult life and become the person that makes derogative and inappropriate comments, withhold vital work information or even spread malicious rumours.

Bullying in the workplace is a problem that is costing businesses across the globe through indirect costs such as absenteeism, employee turnover, loss of productivity and legal costs.  Continue reading

Supporting Victorian Dairy Farmers during tough times

The Andrews Labor Government is supporting dairy farmers affected by the global fall of milk prices and the decision by Murray Goulburn and Fonterra to retrospectively cut the prices paid to producers.

Premier Daniel Andrews today announced a $1.5 million assistance package in South Gippsland to deliver support for affected farmers and the broader community.

Two thirds of workplace fatalities involve a vehicle

I’ve always loved cars. As long as I was old enough to drive one, I’ve loved the smell, the touch, and the sounds. But not all people see them in the way that I do, some only identify motor vehicles as a method of getting from point A, to point B.

Unfortunately for many workers, driving a motor vehicle is an accident waiting to happen. In 2014 alone, 49 truck drivers and 18 workers in cars were killed while working.
